On the request of Punjab Police to not let the prime suspect of the motorway gang-rape incident get away and escape the country, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday black listed the suspect’s name and has sent out alerts to all law enforcement agencies at checkpoints across the country.
Capital City Police Officer of Lahore Umer Sheikh relayed to Dawn that the FIA had been asked to prevent Malhi from fleeing the country and his name had been placed on the ‘black list’.

CCPO told how the process of placing the suspect’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL) was a cumbersome and time consuming process, hence, the police took action by informing the FIA at airports, seaports and all check-points on land to stop the primary suspect of the motorway rape case from leaving the country.

The CCPO is confident that the criminal will soon be caught. Police teams have conducted search operations in various cities to find the culprit Abid Malhi but have failed to trace the exact whereabouts. An FIA senior official explained that whenever the police asked them to prevent anyone on their wanted list from escaping, that person’s name was placed on the ‘black list’.
