Electricity and gas theft pose significant challenges in Pakistan, with illegal connections, meter tampering, and non-payment of bills contributing to substantial losses for energy providers. These losses run into billions of rupees annually and result in widespread power outages. Gas theft, achieved through methods like illegal connections and meter tampering, further exacerbates revenue losses and safety hazards for gas distribution companies.

FIA Action Plan

Special teams have been formed by the FIA to execute the crackdown, with Naqvi issuing strict directives for legal action against perpetrators. The minister highlighted the importance of curbing electricity and gas theft to ensure the stability of essential utility services. Additionally, Naqvi emphasized the need for accountability in cases of human trafficking, directing authorities to take decisive action against those involved.

The government’s commitment to addressing utility theft is underscored by its efforts to enhance the value of the Pakistani rupee through crackdowns on illicit financial activities like hawala and hundi. Naqvi’s directives reflect a comprehensive approach to tackling various forms of criminal activity, ensuring a safer and more secure environment for citizens while promoting the fair distribution of essential resources.
