After a year of speculations since the Hyundai Elantra was revealed in the PAPS Auto Show in Lahore back in February 2020, Hyundai Nishat has finally put our anxiousness to rest by officially launching the 6th Generation Elantra in Pakistan.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the vehicle launch took place on Sunday, the 21st of March 2020. Hosted by RJ Khalid Malik and Anushey Ashraf, it was attended by Bang Sun Jeong, head of Hyundai Motors Middle East and Africa region; Tatsuya Sato, COO of Hyundai Nishat Motors; Mr. Hamza Salahuddin Ansari, the Director of Sales and Marketing Division, and General Manager Sales and Marketing for the company.
Hyundai’s new sedan in Pakistan, Elantra is a direct rival to Civic and Corolla in many countries, now including Pakistan. While we know it as Elantra, but in its hometown Korea and some other limited markets, it is known as Avante, Latin for ‘forward’.
Pakistan is reportedly receiving the 6th generation which came to the international markets in 2016 and 2017.
According to the launch, Pakistan is receiving only the “GLS” variant of the Elantra. However, the company is expected to introduce other variants in the future.
Here are the Features:
Exterior
The sedan will have body-color bumpers and side mirrors, full tetra LED headlights and LED taillights. Shark-fin-antenna will also be available. Chrome door handles with welcome lights, chrome front grille, LED DRL will also be standard equipment.
The exterior color options are Polar White, Silver Metallic, Graphite Gray, Black Diamond, teal Blue, and Fiery Red.
Engine
Only one Euro II compliant 2.0L MPI NA engine was shown. This is the same as the one offered in Hyundai’s Tucson and its sister car KIA Sportage as well.
The power performance of the car is 154 Horsepower at 6200 RPM and 195 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM.
The car will be a 6-speed Auto transmission with Economy, Sport, Smart, and Normal drive mode options.
PKDM Elantra is equipped with standard ABS, DISC on all 4 wheels, McPherson strut as a front suspension while torsion beam axle on the rear. It comes with 16-inch alloy wheels with specifications 205/55/R16.
Dimensions
Elantra is 4620mm long, 1800mm wide while 1450mm in height. For our general understating of the footprint, in comparison, the current Corolla in Pakistan is 4620mm long, 1775mm wide, and 1475mm in height.
Elantra will come with 50 liters of the fuel tank and has a trunk capacity of 407 Liters.
Safety
The car comes with Electronic stability control, 2 standard front airbags, traction control, hill-start assist, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, a backup camera with dynamic guidelines, and lastly, ISOFIX Child Seat Anchors. The car does not have the much-loved parking sensors though.
Interior and Equipment
This is where the 6th gen Elantra seemed like an old car. Although it has many features, the design of the interior seems slightly old compared to that of the 7th generation Elantra available overseas.
The car comes with a leather steering wheel with audio controls and voice command. It has central locking with a speed sensing door lock. The car also has a 4.2” TFT display in an instrumental panel with an Optitron meter+ Digital speedometer like Tucson.
The car has a keyless entry with a push-button start. The car offers a smart trunk lid opener and remote fuel lid opener.
The interior is loaded with ample tech-features and clean aesthetics such as a silver trim, a combination of cream and black leather, panels and seats, and a simple and easy to operate center control stack. The car comes with an 8-way power driver seat with lumbar support.
The car has a Sunroof, sun visor with vanity lights. Dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents.
The infotainment system is a 7-inch touch screen infotainment system with USB, AUX. (Smartphone apple car paly + android auto capability needs to be confirmed) The car has 6 speakers and a wireless charger.
Elantra also offers cruise control, rain-sensing wipers with auto defogger, powered side windows, Coming home/leaving home headlight delay as well.

Price
For now, the Hyundai Elantra in Pakistan will only be offered in one variant, and the price of the car is Rs. 4,049,000, which makes it slightly more expensive than the Toyota Corolla’s top trim-level, but massively cheaper than the Honda Civic RS Turbo trim-level.
