Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto will embark on a two-day official visit to Iran, the media reported. This will be his first trip to the country since becoming a foreign minister.
According to the details, the foreign minister will meet his Iranian counterpart and other important government figures during his trip. Both sides will discuss matters related to Pakistan-Iran’s cooperation in various fields, including energy, etc.

Regarding energy, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal had also visited the Iranian Ambassador Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini a few days ago, seeking an increase in electricity exports.

Emphasizing the importance of neighborliness with the Islamic Republic of Iran and bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, Ahsan Iqbal requested an increase in Iran’s electricity exports to Balochistan. Currently, Pakistan is undergoing a severe energy crisis.
Ahsan Iqbal requested Iraninan ambassador to expand economic cooperation, especially to increase the export of electricity by 100 MW in addition to the current 104 MW of electricity to the province from Iran.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto had visited China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Davos to meet his counterparts and attend global forums to represent Pakistan.
Bilawal Bhutto also visited the US and met with Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The foreign minister said he had in-depth discussions on issues impacting regional peace and security, including Afghanistan.
The two sides also discussed expansion of cooperation in trade and investment, energy and climate change, health and education, IT and tech, and agriculture as well as the importance of “trade over aid”, according to Bilawal.

On another note, Bilawal Bhutto recently entered into self-isolation after his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock tested positive for the coronavirus during her Pakistan visit. The Foreign Minister went into isolation and performed official duties from his residence. He later got himself tested for Covid-19.
