Pakistan firmly rejected India’s objections to references made to Jammu and Kashmir in the Pakistan-China joint statement issued on June 8. Reiterating its long-held position, Pakistan emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory. The Foreign Office Spokesperson highlighted that India’s claims over the region are unfounded and misleading.
In response to a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs on June 3, the spokesperson underscored that the Kashmir dispute has been on the UN Security Council’s agenda for over seven decades.

“The relevant Security Council resolutions clearly stipulate that the final disposition of the State of Jammu and Kashmir will be made in accordance with the will of the people, expressed through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite conducted under the auspices of the United Nations,” the spokesperson reaffirmed.
UN Resolutions and International Dispute
The Foreign Office Spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, responded to media inquiries by reiterating the established international stance on Kashmir. She pointed out that the dispute remains unresolved as per UN resolutions, which mandate a plebiscite to determine the region’s future. This, she stated, reaffirms the long-standing view that Jammu and Kashmir’s status is to be determined democratically.
The Kashmir issue’s prolonged presence on the UN agenda highlights its significance and the need for a peaceful resolution. Pakistan’s call for adherence to these resolutions underscores its commitment to a democratic solution. The spokesperson’s remarks came as a reminder that India’s unilateral claims do not align with the international community’s established perspective.
CPEC and India’s Misleading Claims
Addressing India’s concerns about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the spokesperson urged India not to mislead the international community. “CPEC is a flagship developmental endeavor, agreed upon by two sovereign nations,” she emphasized. The project aims to enhance regional connectivity and development, benefiting not just Pakistan and China but the broader region.
Instead of making baseless claims about CPEC, Pakistan urged India to implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. The spokesperson’s comments reflect a broader strategy to counter India’s narrative and to highlight the collaborative nature of CPEC. By focusing on development and cooperation, Pakistan seeks to divert attention from India’s objections and stress the importance of adhering to international resolutions.
Pakistan’s firm rebuttal of India’s objections and its emphasis on international resolutions highlight the ongoing complexities surrounding the Kashmir dispute. The call for adherence to UN mandates and the defense of CPEC as a developmental project reflect Pakistan’s diplomatic strategy.
