FWO gears up for construction of Chaukiwala – Chappar road

According to details by FWO, once completed, this road will provide an alternate route between Chaukiwala on N-55 to Chappar on N-70 which will be 50 km shorter. It will also reduce the gradient from 5000 to 3000 feet due to which heavy traffic will be diverted to this new route.

The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) gets ready for constructing a new road in Dera Gazi Khan. The road construction project will link N-55 Chaukiwala in Punjab to N-70 Chappar in Balochistan.

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar carried out the ground-breaking of this 105 km long road. Locals, notables, district administration, and FWO staff attended the ceremony. CM Buzdar also received a briefing on the road construction project.

Pertinent to mention, CM Buzdar inaugurated nine projects worth Rs5.78 billion in district Dera Ghazi Khan. He also asserted his commitment to resolving the problems of the backward areas.

Important to note, FWO often receives important mega infrastructure projects due to the organization’s timely and efficient implementation.

FWO’s important role

In December 2021, Balochistan announced a plan to release Rs 182 billion to FWO for road and dam projects. FWO will receive the amount as part of the Southern Balochistan Project (SBP).

As per the SBP, the government will construct roads for connectivity and provide electricity to the people. Similarly, the government will build 16 new dams which will irrigate about 150,000 acres of land. Since Balochistan relies on agriculture as a source of income, people need water for which dams will be built.

Therefore, for the efficient implementation of the project, the Balochistan government will award Rs 182 billion to FWO. Under the plan, FWO will construct various roads and dams in Awaran and Panjgur districts.

Apart from this, FWO works tirelessly to ensure the people of Pakistan have safe roads to travel on. Earlier, the Karakoram Highway (KKH) was blocked at two locations due to the heavy snowfall in Gilgit Baltistan. However, FWO tirelessly worked for 5 days to clear the road and keep it open for traffic.

FWO also played a remarkable role in helping clear the expressway during the Murree tragedy this year. FWO brought in heavy machinery and bulldozers to remove the snow from the roads, allowing the safe evacuation of the stranded tourists.
