Gary Kirsten resigns from his post as the head coach of white ball on Monday. Jason Gillispie has now been appointed as the white-ball coach for the Australia tour.
South Africa’s Kirsten resigned after disagreements with PCB on multiple issues. Kirsten’s resignation comes as a blow to the Green Shirts who are set to tour Australia for a three-match ODI series commencing on November 4, followed by a T20I series with the same number of matches.
Gillispie and Kirsten were awarded a two-year contract to coach the Pakistan Cricket Team. However, relations with Kirsten deteriorated after he refused to adhere to some obligations in his contract, claims the media reports. He could only remain with the team for a few months.
Kirsten was obligated to give 11 months to the team as part of his contract. However, he refused to stay with the team and demanded that he would join the team only five or six days before the tour.
Sources claim that he had threatened the board that he wouldn’t be with the team for the Australis tour unless the board sorts out the matter with the mental performance coach David Reid.
Another point of contention between Kirsten and the board was the issue of the selection committee which previously included the head coaches but the PCB, earlier this month, removed them and the captain limiting the panel to five members.

The existing selection committee comprises Aqib Javed Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, and Hassan Cheema.
Following the resignation of Gary Kirsten, PCB is likely to appoint Aqib Javed as the coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has tasked the board to hire a new coach for the team, meanwhile, Gillispie can work as interim head coach.
Former coach Mickey Arthur too reacted to the recent developments. He asserted that “You can’t not have input from the coach in terms of selection, he looks the players in the eye every day and for his role to be taken seriously needs to communicate clearly on roles with the players and give feedback!” said Arthur in a post on X.
