According to a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday, hydrocarbon deposits have been found in Tolanj West-02, a development well in the Tal block located in Kohat Plateau, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to MOL Pakistan, an oil and gas corporation and the operator of the Tal block, the well has been drilled and is currently being tested.
MOL, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL), Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL), and Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) collaborated to explore and develop the Tal block.

As stated in the notice, “as a result of the Drill Stem Test (DST) conducted at the well to test the potential of Lumshiwal formation, the well has tested 12.7 MMscf of gas per day, 11.3 barrels per day of condensate, and 9.2 barrels per day of water at 32/64″ fixed choke size at the flowing wellhead pressure of 1,914 psi.”
DST is a method of isolating and testing the surrounding geological formations using the drill stem.
According to the POL, “the test is a measurement of pressure behavior at the drill stem and is a way to obtain important fluid sampling information and to establish the probability of commercial production.”
It was added that actual production may substantially vary from test results.
Furthermore, POL stated that production from the well is likely to begin in December 2022.
Previously, Pakistan Oilfields Ltd (POL) reported hydrocarbons discovery in exploratory well in Tal block, Mamikhel South-01 in the year 2020.
The drilled well is under testing phase with initial flows reported to be 3,240 barrels per day of crude oil and 16.12mmcfd of gas at a choke size of 32/64” (optimal level).
It was the 10th discovery in Tal block, where the first one was made in December 2002 (Manzalai) and the last (Makori Deep) in June 2016 and added to production by July 2017.
