Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s funeral to be held in Karachi today

Pervez Musharraf died at the age of 79 after a prolonged illness. The funeral prayers of the former president will be held today in Malir Cantonment's Polo Ground at 1:45 pm.

The funeral of former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf will be held today in Karachi after his mortal remains were brought to Karachi on Monday night in a special plane from the UAE.

According to the details, the funeral prayers of Pervez Musharraf will be held today in Malir Cantonment’s Polo Ground at 1:45 pm. He will be laid to rest at the Army Graveyard near Chanesar Goth. It is unclear whether his burial would be held with full state and military protocol or not.

Earlier, Pervez Musharraf’s casket arrived at Combined Mili­t­ary Hos­­pital, Malir Cantt amid a heavy contingent of Military Pol­ice (MP). The body was given Ghusl (ritual washing and shrouding of the deceased ahead of burial) in Sonapur, Dubai, where he breathed his last at the age of 79.

Nation condoles death of Pervez Musharraf

The former president died at the age of 79 during treatment at American Hospital Dubai of his prolonged ailment. He was being treated for amyloidosis which is the name for a group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body.

As soon as his death was reported, condolences from Pakistan’s political and military sphere poured in. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as well as the chief of army staff offered their condolences over his demise.

“I offer my condolences to the family of General (retired) Pervez Musharraf. May the departed soul rest in peace!” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif tweeted.

In a statement issued immediately after the news of his demise, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad and all the services chiefs expressed their heartfelt condolences. “May Allah bless the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family,” the military’s media wing said.

PML-N Supreme leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, whose government was dislodged by Pervez Musharraf in 1999, also condoled the death via his Twitter account.
