Google shares doodle reminding General Elections in Pakistan

The Doodle features a ballot box adorned with the Pakistani flag, symbolizing the significance of this democratic event. Earlier this year, the PTI chief dissolved the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies, signaling a desire for snap elections.

Google has recently unveiled a Doodle that serves as a timely reminder of the forthcoming General Elections in Pakistan, scheduled to take place later this year amidst ongoing political and economic challenges.

The Doodle features a ballot box adorned with the Pakistani flag, symbolizing the significance of this democratic event.

Upon interacting with the Doodle, users are greeted with a message displaying “Pakistan National Election 2023,” urging citizens to prepare for their democratic duty.

The previous General Elections were held in 2018 and resulted in Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party securing victory. However, Khan’s term as Prime Minister was cut short in April 2022 when a no-confidence vote led to his removal from power. Subsequently, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) formed a coalition government.

With the current assembly’s term set to conclude on August 13th this year, the countdown to the general elections has commenced. According to regulations, elections should be held within 60 days of the assembly’s completion, with a possibility of a 90-day extension if the dissolution occurs earlier.

Earlier this year, the PTI chief dissolved the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies, signaling a desire for snap elections. However, the ruling coalition, advocating for simultaneous elections in both the national and provincial assemblies, rejected these calls. They argue that prioritizing economic stabilization is crucial, blaming the previous government’s policies for setbacks in the nation’s economy.

Google’s Doodle serves as a reminder to the people of Pakistan about the upcoming general elections, taking place amidst political and economic tensions. As the nation braces itself for this pivotal democratic event, the results will shape the future direction of Pakistan’s governance.

Pakistan Democratic Movement took over the government of Pakistan last year in April 2022 following the success of the Vote of No Confidence against former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Elections are scheduled this year in October this year.
