The tourism department has decided to explore the tourist attraction spots in the Kurram tribal District and Samana, a small hill station in the adjoining area of Orakzai tribal district. Kurram tribal district is a five-hour drive from Peshawar.
The expansion and development of Pakistan’s tourism industry is a crucial component of the economic revitalization plan of Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf’s government. Hence the Kurram tribal district and Samana have been included in the five-year plan. The government has decided 25 areas including the southern belt and parts of the merged districts for the exploration of tourism potential.
The government has chalked out an investment management plan responsible for the development of tourist attraction sites.
In the first phase of the five-year plan, the team will find tourist sites in the Kurram and Samana near Hangu while the funds have already been allocated for the exploration of archaeological sites and preservation of culture in the seven merged districts under Annual Development Programme.
Besides this, the government has chalked out an investment management plan responsible for the development of tourist attraction sites. A cohesive strategy has also been prepared to protect the natural beauty, resource, and stave off unplanned construction in the new tourism spots identified.

The government is adamant to seek consultation from the local people and administration for the extensive tourism development project. An official elaborating the details of the development program said, “The master plan carries demarcation of land to be applied in Kurram to protect its environment and address cultural sensitivities of the area.”
The development of infrastructure, recreational spot, and construction of roads will start after the demarcation process is completed. Orakzai District, which had been long affected by militancy and terrorism, most definitely needs the resurrection since the army has restored the peace there. Given the immense beauty of the area, tourism will not only generate the economic benefits but also enhance the positive image of Pakistan.
