Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, Provincial Minister of Punjab for housing, urban development and public health engineering, has revealed that “by mid-February, Prime Minister Imran Khan while inaugurating the earth breaking ceremony of 6 thousand units in Punjab under Naya Pakistan Housing scheme will announce further construction of 20 thousand houses in Sialkot, Chiniot, Faisalabad and Layyah.”

These comments were expressed by Mehmood-ur-Rasheed in Dr. Moeed Pirzada live program at GNN Television on Wednesday (January 30, 2019). He said that “by March 2019 Punjab government will advertise additional one lac units as a part of Naya Pakistan Housing project (NPHS).”
According to the official rhetoric, work on 6 thousand units in three cities of Punjab (Renala Khurd, Chishitan and Lodhran) will start in February. “We have just taken the initiative. The process of applications, prices, and layout plan approval, infrastructural facilities, water supply, and sanitation and, houses site selection in Renala Khurd, Chishitan and Lodhran are to complete in February”, Mehmood ur Rasheed said.
Preference will be given to candidates who do not own any independent residential unit in Pakistan. The homes are to be made for the common man, who earns between Rs10, 000 and Rs25, 000 a month.
Moreover, “government of Punjab will initiate a pilot project in rural areas in which 50 houses up to a range of 5 lac each will be constructed in every village to support homeless people there”, he added.
While responding to anchorperson question of ‘housing finance’ Mehmood ur Rasheed said, “Government will support the seed investment and the down payment received will be shifted to further units initiation. However, Bank of Punjab, House Building Finance Corporation, and Al- Meezan Bank are chosen as a facilitator in financing the NPHS.”

Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced the NPHS project in October last year. In the first phase, the government has decided to start the NPHS in seven districts, including Sukkur, Quetta, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Swat, Islamabad, and Faisalabad, with an aim to construct a total five million houses for the low-income strata of the society during next five years.
Following the announcement by the prime minister, NADRA had issued registration form the NPHS on its website which had been download hundreds of thousands of times. The government has sought cooperation from NADRA for registration and data collection to evaluate housing needs of the people.

As per the NADRA website, only one person per family (husband, wife, and children) is eligible to apply in this scheme.
