The government of Pakistan is receiving flak after ‘objectionable’ videos of the dance performances from the 14th August event in Convention center Islamabad emerged on Sunday.
Multiple small videos from the annual show organized by the government of Pakistan each year on 14th August were shared by netizens on social media. The videos show dance performers grooving to upbeat music in bright-colored dresses. Female dancers were seen wearing tight dresses, dancing, and running on the floor from one end of the stage to the other. The performances were objectionable, chaotic, and lacked coherence according to the netizens.

A score of social media users mocked the government for arranging a funky dance show on the 14th of August. Twitter users condemned the government for ruining the sanctity of the event by ‘cheap’ performances. Some netizens called the event a ‘wedding function’. Twitter users even questioned the choice of songs played in the event in which the dancers performed. Users said they are unable to understand the message behind the celebration and performance at the flag-hoisting ceremony in Pakistan. Netizens said that the current government undermined the national values of Pakistan.
Journalist Ansar Abbasi expressed regret about the event. In his tweet on Monday, he said, “Earlier national anthems were sung on the occasion of Independence Day, this time the current government has taken Pakistan to new heights of “development” by starting the official level. #افسوس_صد_افسوس.”
پہلے جشن آزادی کے موقعہ پر ملی نغمے گائے جاتے تھے، موجودہ حکومت نے اس بار سرکاری سطح پر مجرے شروع کرا کر پاکستان کو “ترقی” کی نئی منزلوں تک پہنچا دیا۔ #افسوس_صد_افسوس
