As a result, the government has decided to lower the prices of trains and PIA fares which will come into effect tonight and will remain in force for 30 days.

High travel fares

Last month, travel costs increased significantly when Pakistan Railways announced a 15 percent hike in prices due to the rising fuel prices. Train fares increased by 10 percent for passengers and 15 percent for cargo. Multiple national and international airlines also jacked up fares for passengers by up to 40 percent.

This was concerning for the public because as many as 94 percent of people travel on railways and 90 percent of passengers in PIA travel in economy class. As a result, commuting became a major inconvenience for the public.
