Gunmen in Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal opened fire on a couple reportedly for their love marriage on Monday. The husband died on the spot while three other people including the wife were injured.
According to the reports, the couple contracted the free-will marriage which the family of the girl did not approve of. East SSP Qamar Raza Jiskani said that Waseem Ejaz and Kausar Ejaz were traveling in the car with other relatives when the incident happened. Gunmen in other cars accosted them and opened fire on the car. Waseem died on the spot while Kausar received a bullet in her arm.

Other injured passengers were identified as Waseem’s brother Naseer Ejaz and driver Syed Muneer who were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for treatment. The fifth man who remained unhurt in the incident told that the parents of Kausar had filed a First Information Report against Waseem Ejaz for kidnapping their daughter in Hyderabad on August 29th, 2021.
Muneer received the injury in the chest and his condition was termed serious while Naseer’s condition was termed out of danger.
Surviving victim names her family as culprits
The couple had appeared before Sindh High Court to cancel the FIR on Monday. The girl’s father and brother had persuaded her to go with them but she refused. As per the report, the couple along with other victims were heading to their residence in Steel Mill when gunmen opened fire on the car. Both the families hail from Larkana.
Kausar has named five suspects in the incident. Her father Aziz, brother Azeem, cousin Nasir and her two relatives Hameer and Amin. Investigations are further carried by the Police to arrest the suspects.

Several incidents of couples killed for free-will marriage have been reported in the past. Meanwhile, social media users expect Police to swiftly take action against the culprits in the incident.
