On 16 April, the federal government released the transfer orders of the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat.
In the notification, a copy of which has gone viral over the social media, it is stated that “Mr. Muhammad Hamza Shafqaat, a BS-19 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, presently posted as Deputy Commissioner, Islamabad Capital Territory, Islamabad, under Interior Division, is transferred and directed to report to Establishment Division, with immediate effect and until further orders.”
The notification was copied to Secretary to President, Secretary to Prime Minister, Secretary Cabinet Division, Secretary Establishment Division, Secretary Interior Division, Chief Commission Islamabad, Principal Information Officer, A.G.P.R. Islamabad, Additional Secretaries, Joint Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries, Director (PD), Director (I.T.) and R.O. (PD Wing), Section officers concerned, Establishment Division, Islamabad.

Shortly after the federal government released the transfer orders, Hamza Shafqaat, the outgoing Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, took to Twitter and thanked the people of the city, adding that “it was an honor working for Islamabad.” Hamza was posted as the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad in July 2018.
His tweet has till now been retweeted over 1600 times and been liked by more than 13 thousand Twitter users, many of whom took to the comments section to thank the civil servant for his services. One prominent journalist, Aniqa Nisar, reacting to the former Deputy Commissioner’s tweet, wrote, “You’ll be missed. Best of luck for future.”

Hamza Shafqaat will be replaced by Irfan Nawaz Memon as the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad. According to reports, Irfan Nawaz Memon, a BS-19 officer, was immediately relieved of his duties under the Government of Balochistan and transferred to Islamabad.

Earlier, Hamza Shafqaat on Thursday was summoned by the Islamabad High Court for failure to carry out an auction of 900 seized, unclaimed, and tampered vehicles. The court ordered Hamza Shafqaat for a written explanation on why contempt of court proceedings should not be held against him for not auctioning these vehicles.
