Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz is again garnering attention on social media after her picture shaking hands with the President of UAE Muhammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan went viral.
The picture of Maryam Nawaz shaking hands with Sheikh Muhammad bin Zayed has garnered mixed reviews on social media. The latest picture released by the party shows Maryam Nawaz greeting Muhammad bin Zayed while she tightly holds his hand in her hands in a gesture of warm welcome.
Several social media users have objected to the style of Maryam Nawaz shaking hands with the Dubai ruler. Viewing from the perspective of Islam, several netizens called her out for shaking hands with a “non-mahram”.
Her opponents raised the issue that Maryam Nawaz had objected to appearing in front of NAB officials during the investigation on the pretext of ‘Non-Mehram’, however, by shaking hands with Sheikh Zayed, she is exuding hypocrisy.
“@MaryamNSharif refused to appear before the joint investigation team on corruption charges because the investigating team was mainly made up of Na-Mehram men. Here she is gladly holding the hand of Arab Sheikh,” said one user on X.
“I didn’t comment on Maryam Nawaz’s photo with the Emirati monarch. What she does with her hands and body is none of my business, and it should be none of yours either. Let’s not stoop to the level of spreading filth like PMLN,” said another user on X.
Another user argued that,” I personally don’t see any issue with Maryam Nawaz shaking hands with a foreign dignitary … it’s her choice to conduct herself how she deems fit. But the irony lies in her party condemning other women for the same thing. Respect is a two way street, if they feel their leader deserves it then they need to extend the same grace to others female politicians. The real hypocrisy is of using the religion and morality card to attack others for actions that they now justify. The same goes for PTI also, they’ve left no stone unturned in maligning others as well. This needs to stop somewhere.”
