Hasan Nawaz Declared Bankrupt by London High Court in Tax Case

Hasan Nawaz, son of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has been declared bankrupt by the London High Court in a tax case filed by the UK's Revenue and Customs Department.

Hasan Nawaz, son of former Prime Minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, has been declared bankrupt by the London High Court, as reported by ARY News.

According to the UK Gazette, the official record-keeping journal of the United Kingdom, Hasan Nawaz was declared bankrupt in a tax case involving the UK’s Revenue and Customs Department (HMRC). The bankruptcy decision, issued under case number 694 of 2023, was officially released on April 29, 2024. The case itself was filed on August 25, 2023.

Sources close to Hasan Nawaz revealed that his legal team is thoroughly reviewing the case and plans to file a response to the court’s ruling soon.

The civil case was brought forward by HMRC, with Kaur Maxwell serving as Hasan Nawaz’s legal representative. Speaking to ARY News, British legal expert Barrister Gul Nawaz Khan outlined the process, stating, “When an individual fails to settle their payments, the government intervenes, and if a settlement cannot be reached, the matter is taken to court.”

Barrister Gul Nawaz also explained the consequences of bankruptcy, noting, “Once someone is declared bankrupt, they are prohibited from serving as a director of any company. Additionally, they face significant obstacles in obtaining loans in the future.”

This development coincided with Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz departing for Pakistan. Nawaz Sharif had traveled to the UK on October 26, later continuing to the US before returning to London from a European visit on November 12.
