HBL, Pakistan’s largest financial institution, ensured uninterrupted services for its Shershah branch after the unfortunate incident of 18th December 2021. For its valuable clients, HBL made immediate arrangements to make sure that clients can easily conduct their business.
In a statement, HBL said clients can conduct their business from the alternate branch located at Diwan Centre, East Avenue, S.I.T.E, Karachi. Moreover, clients can meet their cash and banking needs from the 2100 ATMs and 1700 branches across Pakistan.
Clients can also conduct their business, including debit/credit card transactions from HBL Mobile App and Internet Banking. Regarding this, HBL became Pakistan’s first bank to enable its customers to use their mobile phones as their credit cards and make payments instantly via HBL Pay. This feature, embedded in the HBL Mobile App, makes the customer experience more convenient and hassle-free. Additionally, clients can also use HBL WhatsApp Banking Service to get information about their accounts.

HBL’s unfortunate branch incident
To clarify, Saturday, a blast occurred in the city’s Sher Shah Paracha Chowk area. As per initial reports, the blast took place in a gas pipeline running through a nullah located in the area, causing immense damages to the building that was constructed atop it. HBL, one of the tenants in the building, also suffered heavy losses.
According to the latest reports, 17 people died due to the gas explosion, leaving several injured. Reacting to the incident, HBL extended its sympathies to the bereaved families. A spokesperson for the bank said HBL’s focus is to work closely with the authorities in facilitating all rescue and relief efforts and providing support to the families of the affected.
“Our main concern is the safety of our customers and our staff. We continue to serve our customers across Karachi and the rest of the country,” HBL said.

Moreover, PM Khan wrote on Twitter: “My heartfelt prayers [and] condolences go to all the families of victims of the twin blasts at Sher Shah Paracha Chowk, Karachi.”
