Reacting to the news of the suicides, Netizens held the PPP led the Sindh government responsible. According to them, the PPP government failed to provide interior Sindh with the basic amenities that could improve living standards. As a result, interior Sindh faced severe poverty, leading to people committing suicide out of desperation.
This is not the first time the Sindh government has been accused of failure. The Federal government often calls out the Sindh government’s incompetence by highlighting the issues facing the province.

Sindh’s increased suicide rates
The above-mentioned incidents of suicides are not the first of their kind. In recent years, the province faced a rapid increase in suicide rates owing to a myriad of reasons with poverty being the main one.
Last year, at a seminar by the Sindh Human Rights Commission, speakers said poverty and the lack of adequate health facilities are the main reasons for suicide in Sindh.
Between 2016 to 2020, the Sindh Mental Health Authority (SMHA), an arm of the provincial government, recorded 767 suicides in the southern province, of which 79 cases occurred in Tharparkar.
