HMD Global to Launch New Mid-Range Phone Next Month

HMD Global will launch a new high-end smartphone, "Skyline," in July, featuring a 1080p OLED screen, Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, and a €520 price tag. Additionally, the entry-level "Nighthawk" with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC and 120Hz OLED screen is also expected soon.

A recent report from HMD’s headquarters in Finland reveals that the company’s upcoming self-branded smartphone will be named “Skyline.” The Skyline is set to launch in July and is expected to be available at a Finnish retailer by July 10th. Notably, this device departs from the typical offerings of both HMD and Nokia brands, positioning itself as a higher-end model with an anticipated retail price of €520. It will feature 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, and dual-SIM support, and will be available in black. Its model number is identified as TA-1688.

While further specifics are not yet available, there is strong speculation that this could be the device previously codenamed Tomcat. If so, the Skyline will boast a 1080p OLED touchscreen with a fast 120 Hz refresh rate and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC.

The main camera system will feature a 108MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide unit, and a 2MP macro shooter. The front-facing camera inside the punch-hole cutout is expected to be a 32MP snapper. Additional features include IP67 water resistance, Android 14, and a 4,900 mAh battery with 33W wired charging.

HMD “Nighthawk”

Another upcoming device, codenamed “Nighthawk,” is set to be an entry-level offering featuring a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC. Despite its budget orientation, it will have an OLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution, and is rumored to be priced under €300.
