Honouring Labour: A Day of Recognition and Commitment

Labour Day celebrations highlight the importance of worker welfare, labour rights, and social justice, amidst calls for solidarity and collective action to address contemporary challenges and promote economic prosperity.

As the world commemorates International Labour Day, countries reflects on their journey towards economic growth and the resilience of their workforce.

President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extend their unwavering commitment to the welfare of the labour class on International Labour Day. Recognizing the invaluable contributions of workers to the nation’s development, both leaders emphasize the importance of upholding labour rights and ensuring workplace safety and health.

President Zardari calls for comprehensive measures to address the challenges faced by workers, including inflation, unemployment, and the adverse impacts of climate change. He underscores the role of the state and employers in providing fair wages, safe working conditions, and social support to workers, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to create a conducive environment for workers’ well-being.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoes this sentiment, pledging to enhance occupational safety and health standards and improve the working and living conditions of workers in Pakistan. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting labour welfare, he highlights initiatives such as the National Tripartite Labour Conference and calls for increased minimum wages to alleviate the plight of workers.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori pays tribute to the historical struggle of labourers in Pakistan, acknowledging them as the backbone of the country’s development. However, he voices concern over the challenges faced by workers today, including unemployment and low wages, exacerbated by famine and economic hardships.

Governor Tessori advocates for significant increases in the minimum wage to ensure workers’ access to basic necessities such as food, education, and healthcare. He calls upon industrialists and traders to contribute to the welfare of workers and pledges support through initiatives such as the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to promote prosperity and alleviate poverty among workers.
