Islamabad High Court Chief Justice (IHC CJ) Athar Minallah has decided to visit Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail tomorrow for an inspection of the prison as a complaint was filed against the prison concerning torture.
According to the details, heard the case filed by the parents of a prisoner regarding the alleged torture on him. As per the allegations, a 21-year-old prisoner Shahab Hussain, arrested in an anti-terrorism case, was stripped and subjected to torture by Adiala jail officials.
A day earlier, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) submitted a report to IHC disclosing alleged corrupt practices and torture of prisoners held at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
As a result, the IHC CJ will visit the Adiala Jail tomorrow and has also asked the secretary of human rights to accompany him.

Police brutality
While the accusations of torture are against Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Islamabad police have also been accused of torturing its prisoners.
PTI leader Shahbaz Gill had accused the police of torturing him while he was in custody in a sedition case against him. He repeatedly alleged that he was tortured, humiliated, and sexually assaulted in police custody, however, the police and government denied all claims. The police of the federal capital termed Gill’s illness “an excuse”, saying that the medical board had declared him “completely fit”.
On the other hand, TV anchor Jameel Farooqui, also claimed of torture when he was in police custody. Jameel Farooqui was arrested for allegedly making false accusations against Islamabad Police related to the torture of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill.

Jameel Farooqui, while handcuffed and being escorted by Islamabad Police, said he was tortured and stripped naked.
“On the order of the Interior Ministry, just because I am speaking the truth, they tortured, stripped me naked, and slapped me. Islamabad Police have secured my transit remand from court to bring me to the federal capital city from Karachi,” Jameel Farooqui said in a video statement.
