IHC releases PTI activist Sanam Javed

PTI activist was arrested last year in the cases related to May 9th. Since then she was arrested multiple times during the past 14 months.

Islamabad High Court (IHC) declared the arrest of PTI activist Sanam Javed ‘illegal’. The court allows her to return to Punjab.

On Monday, Islamabad High Court ordered her release with a direction to the police and law enforcement agencies to refrain from arresting her again. IHC’s decision brings her and her family respite. PTI activist was arrested last year in the cases related to May 9th. Since then she was arrested multiple times during the past 14 months.

On Tuesday, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb of Islamabad High Court allowed her release but stopped her from leaving Islamabad. The next hearing of the case was held today. During this time, Sanam Javed was allowed to stay in KP House in Islamabad on the orders of CM Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur.

Today, she was present in the court with her family and lawyer Mian Ashfaq Ali Khan. Allowing her release, Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb advised the PTI activist to “avoid unnecessary rhetoric” otherwise the court would reverse its orders.

On July 11th, the Lahore High Court discharged her from a case related to the May 9 riots registered against her in Gujranwala. Javed challenged her physical remand in a new case from Gujranwala after bail was granted to her in all cases registered against her in Lahore.

She was re-arrested by Islamabad Police as soon as she stepped out of the Central Jail in Gujranwala and was shifted to Islamabad. A judicial magistrate again released her but Balochistan Police soon released her. Islamabad High Court again ordered her release on Tuesday. The case was adjourned for two days due to the 9th and 10th Muharram. On Thursday, she was finally released from all cases and allowed to go home freely.

Following her release, she visited the Parliament House and met opposition leader Omar Ayub Khan. She refrained from talking to media, however, she said that she will try to meet former PM Imran Khan in Adiala jail.
