Imran Khan rejects blame for Taliban negotiations

Ex-PM Calls for Fair Investigations into Protests; Criticizes Government's Approach to Afghanistan and Parachinar Crisis

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan rejected the claims of DG ISPR blaming him for the strategy of negotiating with Taliban.

Imran Khan rejected the claims in a statement delivered by his lawyer Faisal Chaudhry. He said it was former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa who devised the strategy of negotiating with the Taliban.

Faisal Chaudhry quoted Imran Khan while speaking to the media outside Adiala jail. He emphasized that the issue of Afghanistan will be resolved through dialogue, as negotiations are an effective approach. However, he criticized the practice of sending special delegations to Kabul while simultaneously engaging in bombings.

The former Prime Minister also demanded fair investigations into the May 9th and November 26th protests.

Earlier, a six-member legal team met with Imran Khan in jail. Faisal Chaudhry asserted that the cases against Imran Khan are politically motivated and lack substance. He has given the deadline of January 31st to gauge the seriousness of the government in the negotiations.

Chaudhry also added that Imran Khan has ordered an immediate resolution to the crisis developing in Parachinar. He warned that the issue is spreading to Sindh and Balochistan and should be resolved on humanitarian grounds. He also condemned the actions of the Sindh government.

Earlier, PTI leader Omar Ayub claimed that former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa insisted on resuming talks with the banned militant outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). His statement came as the Pakistani military once again blamed Imran Khan for the resurgence of terrorism in the country.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Friday said that security forces are ‘paying in blood’ for the decisions made by the PTI-led government in 2021, specifically, holding a dialogue with the terrorist outfit.

He said the talks with TTP reintegrated TTP, which the army termed Fitna Al Khawarij. Responding to the criticism, Omar Ayub on X said that DG ISPR said that it was General Bajwa who advocated for the peace talks with TTP.
