India Spreads False Claims About ICC Delegation’s Visit to Pakistan

India's disinformation campaign targets Pakistan's preparations for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, but the country’s strong response underscores its resilience and transparency.

A delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently visited Pakistan to evaluate preparations for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Contrary to Indian media reports suggesting concerns over Pakistan’s ability to host, the ICC delegation expressed satisfaction with the security and infrastructure. Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), confirmed that world-class arrangements are in progress, with all stadium upgrades scheduled for completion before the tournament.

The delegation, including senior officials such as Sarah Edgar, Wasim Khan, and David Musker, visited Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad. They were briefed on the security and facilities being prepared for the tournament. Despite these reassurances, India’s participation in the event remains unconfirmed, causing delays in finalizing the schedule.

Indian Propaganda and Misinformation

India has launched a negative propaganda campaign, targeting Pakistan’s hosting of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy and spreading false information through various media channels. The Indian media falsely reported concerns from the ICC delegation about Pakistan’s security capabilities, but the delegation’s visit proved otherwise.

This disinformation campaign is part of a broader strategy India has employed against Pakistan, aimed at destabilizing the country’s political and social landscape. These narratives are propagated to undermine Pakistan’s reputation internationally, often influencing diplomatic and economic relations.

Historical Misinformation Campaigns

India’s efforts to defame Pakistan are not limited to cricket. The “Indian Chronicles” report, published by EU DisinfoLab in 2020, revealed that over 750 fake media outlets were created over 15 years to spread anti-Pakistan propaganda. These platforms, including “EP Today” and “Times of Geneva,” disseminated false information targeting Pakistan’s geopolitical stance, with the intention of harming its international reputation.

India has also supported separatist groups in Balochistan and provided platforms for terrorist organizations like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to propagate their agenda. These efforts have intensified in recent years, further complicating Pakistan’s efforts to maintain stability.

Countering Disinformation and Promoting Awareness

Pakistan has shown resilience in countering India’s disinformation campaigns. Initiatives like the PEMRA Amendment Bill 2023 and strengthened laws under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) aim to combat false narratives. Public awareness campaigns about the dangers of disinformation, especially on social media, are also essential.

In conclusion, while India continues to use propaganda as a tool to undermine Pakistan, the country’s response remains focused on transparency, resilience, and building international partnerships that highlight the truth.
