Indian blockbuster ‘Veer Zaara’ set for re-release in 600 cinemas globally

20th anniversary international re-release of iconic cross-border love story in 600 cinemas with new song.

Yash Raj Chopra’s blockbuster movie ‘Veer Zaara’ is to be re-released internationally in 600 cinemas on November 7th, 2024.

First released in 2004, Veer Zaara stars Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Rani Mukherjee in lead roles. The movie was the highest-grossing film in India, overseas, and globally, grossing Rs 98 crore in its original run. It was re-released in cinemas across India in September 2024 and earned 100 crores at the worldwide box office. The movie has so far earned 104 crore. The upcoming re-release of the movie will focus on international markets North America, the Middle East, the UK & Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, and South Africa.

The movie will celebrate its 20 years of release. This is the first time an already-released Indian movie is gearing up for an international re-release. The X-Factor of the re-release is that it will include the song Aa Gaye Hum Kahan, which wasn’t part of the original cut. Not just that, even in the Indian re-release, it hasn’t ever been attached before.

Besides India, the movie gained massive viewership and popularity in Pakistan as well. The storyline of the movie is based on the cross-border love story between Shah Rukh Khan (Squadron leader of Indian Air Force, Veer Pratap Singh) and Preity Zinta (Zara Hayat, a daughter of rich and influential figure of Lahore, Pakistan). Meanwhile, Rani Mukherjee played the role of a Pakistani lawyer who helps Shah Rukh Khan get back to his country.

Veer spends his years in a Pakistani prison, Zaara believes him to be dead and devotes her life to his village in India. Top Bollywood actors Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan were also part of the movie. Apart from them, Divya Dutta, Kirron Kher, and Manoj Bajpaye were in the supporting cast of the movie.
