Indian Police officer Gagandeep Singh risked his life for a Muslim boy

An Indian cop Gagandeep Singh risked his life to save a Muslim boy from the violent mob in Uttarakhand district of India. Police officer Gangandeep Singh garnered massive appreciation for his heroism on social media after his video went viral.

Singh risked his life and took all the attacks and physical intimidation on himself to save the boy from the angry mob.

“Five of the attackers who are clearly visible in the video have been identified by the police and have been booked under relevant sections,” the ADGP added.

The Muslim boy was caught with a Hindu girl after which they called the members of right-wing Hindu extremists. The violent mob beat the boy and girl. They threatened to kill the girl and lynch the Muslim boy.

“The youth had gone to meet the girl from Hindu community, who is his friend, according to the police,” said the report. A police team was rushed to control the law and order situation. The police tried to disperse the mob. Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh would be seen protecting the youth.

“But when some angry activists started shouting and assaulted the youth, Singh shielded him by embracing him and taking the blows from angry activists,” it reported. The additional director of Police, Ashok Kumar said the youth were safely escorted to Police Station and were later sent with their parents.

“The youth and the girl were taken to a police station and later sent with their parents,” he said.”Five of the attackers who are clearly visible in the video have been identified by the police and have been booked under relevant sections,” the ADGP added.

The Police department has awarded Gagandeep Singh a reward of Rs.2500. The DGP also requested the people not to share the video as it might incite communal violence.

The people commenting on the incident said that where it is fortunate to have police officers like Gagandeep Singh it also indicates the broken trust of the people on the institutions of the state formed to protect them.
