iPadOS 18: Native Calculator with New Features

Apple has finally introduced a native calculator app for the iPad in iPadOS 18, featuring Math Notes for Apple Pencil users to solve complex equations. The update also includes a floating tab bar, enhanced Notes app with SmartScript, and a suite of AI features for M1-equipped iPads.

After 14 years, Apple has finally introduced a native calculator app for the iPad, but it has a unique feature that sets it apart from typical calculator apps. If you have an Apple Pencil, you can use the Math Notes feature, which allows you to jot down complex equations and receive instant solutions. It supports variables and updates the results as you change the inputs. Math Notes is also integrated into the Notes app, enhancing its functionality.

Moreover, the Notes app now includes SmartScript, an innovative feature that uses machine learning to improve the readability of your handwriting while maintaining its original style, similar to what Samsung and other Android manufacturers offer.

Apple iPadOS 18 will also introduce a new floating tab bar. This bar, which hovers at the top of your apps as a shortcut and can transform into a sidebar, will be available as an API for developers. It allows for the integration of contextual menus, simplifies navigation, and enhances document search within apps.

In addition, iPadOS 18 will bring the updated home screen and app customization options from iOS 18, as well as a revamped Photos app. For iPads equipped with the M1 chip or newer, Apple Intelligence will be available. This suite of AI features includes prioritizing notifications, summarizing information, creating images, and an enhanced Siri assistant.
