Is Cristiano Ronaldo Considering Conversion to Islam?

Cristiano Ronaldo’s growing respect for Islamic customs since joining Saudi Arabia has led to speculation about a potential conversion to Islam.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the globally renowned Portuguese footballer, may be considering converting to Islam.

In a recent interview on an Arab TV program, former goalkeeper Abdullah shared insights into Ronaldo’s growing respect for Islamic traditions since moving to Saudi Arabia. Abdullah, who played alongside Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, revealed that the football star has shown a genuine interest in embracing Islam.

“Ronaldo really wants to convert to Islam. I spoke to him about it, and he showed interest,” Abdullah disclosed. He also mentioned Ronaldo’s participation in an Islamic prostration after scoring a goal, which deeply resonated with his teammates, who chanted “Allahu Akbar” in celebration. Abdullah added that Ronaldo has regularly encouraged his teammates to follow their religious practices, even halting training sessions for the call to prayer.

“When the call to prayer sounds during training, Ronaldo asks the coach to stop until it finishes,” he said, noting that Ronaldo’s sensitivity to Islamic customs reflects his growing understanding of the culture.

Ronaldo’s interest in Islam, according to Abdullah, is not entirely new, citing influences from his former Real Madrid teammates, Mesut Özil and Karim Benzema, both devout Muslims. Their discussions on faith and religious practices seem to have left a lasting impact on the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Abdullah also revealed that Ronaldo frequently sought his guidance upon arriving in Saudi Arabia, as he was unfamiliar with the country’s culture and traditions. “In the beginning, I was close to Cristiano because he wasn’t aware of many things about the club or local customs. He often asked questions, eager to learn,” he said.

Ronaldo’s adaptation to life in Saudi Arabia has caught the attention of many. Abdullah praised the footballer’s humility and discipline, calling him a role model. “He is one of the most dedicated and straightforward athletes I have met,” he said, adding that Ronaldo’s warm interactions with teammates and locals have earned him admiration from the Saudi community.

While Abdullah’s remarks and the growing speculation suggest an interest in Islam, there has been no official confirmation from Ronaldo regarding his religious beliefs or a potential conversion. Nonetheless, his gestures, such as prostrating on the field and encouraging prayer observance, continue to inspire admiration among his Muslim fans.
