Is Governor Punjab unhappy with CM Buzdar?

News Desk |

Punjab Assembly Speaker Pervaiz Elahi sounded irked with Governor Punjab Chaudhary Sarwar. In a video circulating on media, Mr. Elahi is seen demanding Jahangir Tareen, a former PTI parliamentarian, to control the Punjab governor.

Leaders of PTI and PML-Q had met to discuss and consult over the senate elections. PML-Q member and Federal Minister for housing, Tahir Bashir Cheema agreeing to Mr. Elahi said, “Sarwar will not let Chief Minister Usman Bazdar run the provincial government.”

CM Buzdar narrowly escaped disqualification in ‘Manika Fiasco’ where a DPO was transferred for allegedly not giving VIP treatment to former husband of the first lady.

Mr. Buzdar, the incumbent Chief Minister of Punjab is considered ‘Jahangir Tareen’s man’ and is criticized as weak and inept chief executive. However, no one expected that Governor Punjab would be unhappy with Imran Khan’s choice. Since Mr. Buzdar took over the leadership of Punjab, he has received massive flak from media and politicians alike.

Last month, Imran Khan had to categorically snub Buzdar’s critics in a media presser in which the later sat next to the Prime Minister. Buzdar was also flanked by the flamboyant Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudary which indicated that PTI’s MNA’s and the central government stand by Punjab’s top man.

However, news of PTI’s Punjab MPA’s being unhappy with CM Buzdar has been circulating since he was sworn in. The alleged disliking of Chaudary Sarwar is an indication of simmering differences between PTI Punjab leadership and the federal government.

Despite the differences and the criticism on CM Usman Buzdar, it is clear that he has so far weathered all the storms. The major decision of Punjab government to clamp down on encroachments has been successful. Major transfers have also been made in the bureaucracy without much resistance from the civilian establishment.

Mr. Sarwar than left PMLN over ‘unexplained’ differences. If he was unhappy with Shahbaz Sharif, he could never be happy with Usman Buzdar. Now he has to decide whether to continue his second stint as Governor or resign”.

The Punjab government seems to be functioning smoothly and appears to be stable. The confidence of CM Punjab is also increasing and he is now able to hold lengthy pressers without any assistance. CM Buzdar narrowly escaped disqualification in ‘Manika Fiasco’ where a DPO was transferred for allegedly not giving VIP treatment to former husband of the first lady.

Analysts, GVS talked to, believe that the apprehensions of Governor Punjab must be addressed. While talking on the history of Chaudhry Sarwar, Osama Khursheed, anchor U-News, stated that “Chaudary Sarwar was brought in as Governor by Sharif brothers during their previous tenure.
