Javed Sheikh expressed his disappointment over the recent Lux Style Awards controversy where he was accused of making Mahira Khan feel uncomfortable in his attempt to kiss her on her cheek while giving away an award to her.
In an interview to a magazine in Dubai he said, there is a trend to create sensationalism out of nothing on social media. He said the media picks up news from nothing and makes it into a “breaking news”. He added that technology is good but must be learnt to be used positively.
Javed Sheikh remarked that nothing happened and people are making a fuss out of nothing. He said, Mahira Khan is a wonderful colleague and he respects her a lot.
“Social media made such an issue of the moment. So yes, technology is good but it has to be used constructively,” he concluded.

Earlier, Mahira Khan too responded to the controversy in a tweet, in which she defended Javed Sheikh. She too passed similar remarks that media must avoid making news of everything and anything. She further said Javed Sheikh is her mentor and she will continue to support him always.
“I have just woken up to such silly stuff floating around. It’s good to be aware and has an opinion but for God’s sake don’t use anything and everything to make the news. Javed Sheikh of all people! He is a legend and a mentor to all of us in this industry. Would vouch for him always.”
The controversy emerged after a video went viral on social media that showed Javed Sheikh trying to kiss Mahira Khan on her cheek. She turned her head away that was perceived by people as her uneasiness with Sheikh’s act.

Mahira Khan was called up on stage to be recognized for her powerful performance as a rape victim in her 2017 movie ‘Verna’.
