JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman said that his party has boycotted the upcoming by-elections and will be holding protest rallies across the country from April 25th, 2024.
“We decided not to recognize the results February 8 elections and reject them, because this parliament is less representative of the people and more representative of the establishment,” said the JUI-F in a video message.
He said that his party has to take the nation in confidence regarding the alleged rigging in elections to bring them together in the fight against their right to vote and secure their mandate.
“This is our narrative and we have decided to move forward with it. We will start this movement named Awami Assembly from April 25 from Balochistan’s Pishin,” said the politician.
Fazl informed that the Awami assembly will be held in Karachi on May 2nd, and May 9th in Peshawar. The date for Lahore will be decided later.
“The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has remained powerless and did not have the permission to compile a single result,” Fazl lamented, adding that interference was being done in the matters of the civil bureaucracy.
He said that it is the first time the high courts have raised their voice against interference, threats, and intimidation. He added that his party is boycotting the by-elections that are taking place on April 21st, 2024 on National and provincial seats after they were left vacant following the general elections held on February 8th, 2024.
“We don’t trust the previous results of the elections. How can we expect fairness in the by-elections?” he added.
