Kamran Akmal snubs father of Babar Azam

Former cricketer urges families to stay out of professional matters; Babar Azam’s omission from T20I squad sparks controversy.

Former cricketer Kamran Akmal slammed the father of Babar Azam for intervening in the latter’s career and criticising former cricketers.

Azam Siddiqui had taken to Instagram to unleash his frustration against the criticism on Babar Azam by former cricketers.

His post came a day after Babar was omitted from Pakistan’s T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand. He said, “You are part of the past and will not play again” to the former cricketers.

Siddiqui described himself as Babar Azam’s first coach, mentor, and spokesperson. Adding that he has the right to defend his son.

“Despite being part of the ICC’s T20 Team of the Year, he was dropped. It’s fine; he will perform in the National T20 and PSL. Insha Allah, he will make a comeback,” Siddique wrote.

“They are very big former players, but they should choose their words wisely. If someone responds, they may not tolerate it. You are the past, and that door will never open,” he added.

Responding to his criticism, Kamran Aklam snubbed Azam Siddiqui and asked not to interfere in the matters related to profession and career of Babar Azam.

“I went through a tough time in my career. I understood everyone but told my father and brothers that it wasn’t their job to respond or speak on my behalf. Every player’s family should follow this policy,” Akmal said.

He also disapproved of public criticism of the Pakistan Cricket Board publicly. “I don’t think it is appropriate to speak against the institution,” he added.

Babar Azam has been receiving immense criticism on social media after the team’s overall poor performance in the ICC Champions Trophy. The cricketer has been dropped from the T20I squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. However, father of Babar Azam is hopeful he will make a comeback to the T20 side.
