On Monday, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, addressing a press conference in Chief Minister House, said that the whereabouts of the allegedly kidnapped minor, Dua Zehra, have been identified; however, the Minister did not reveal any further details as he believed that the matter was very “sensitive.”
The case seems to be embroiled in controversy as both Lahore and the Karachi police are making contrasting claims. According to Karachi police, the minor allegedly kidnapped from Karachi’s Al Falah area last week had been traced in Lahore and was now in police custody. At the same time, Lahore Police claims that no raid has been conducted, and no one of age 14 was recovered in the last 24 hours. Purportedly Dua Zehra left the house of her own accord to leave for Lahore, where she got married.

The event of Dua’s abduction caused an outcry on social media. Netizens took to Twitter, calling for police to recover the girl safe and sound. The online reaction forced the police to take immediate action. The police even engaged the intelligence agencies to assist them in locating Dua. A team of anti-violent crime cells also met with the father of Dua Zehra. SSP Zubair Nazir, tasked with finding the girl stated that “We are taking all measures for the recovery of the girl and are in touch with the family to gather all information surrounding her abduction.” Meanwhile, the FIA was also assisting the police. Last week, FIA’s CCW head Imran Riaz visited Dua’s house to probe the matter further. Riaz was accompanied by a four-member team, including a forensic expert, technical analyst, female investigation officer, and female psychologist.
Separately, another young girl, Nimra Kazmi, has also gone missing in Karachi. In a recorded statement, the mother of the girl stated that her daughter had not made it home since she left on April 20 and expressed her suspicion that her daughter had been abducted. She insisted the relevant authorities take immediate action.

Following repeated accounts of abductions, PTI leadership slammed the Sindh government for its lackluster performance. Haleem Adil Sheikh, leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly, accused the Sindh government of lacking seriousness. Referring to Bilawal Bhutto’s trip, the PTI leader underscored that the PPP leadership, instead of focusing on foreign trips, should focus on the province. Finally, taking a swing at the relevant authorities, the leader of the opposition said that the police, rather than focusing on the matter at hand, was purportedly involved in the character assassination of the girl.
