Karachi’s new administrator fails amid massive flooding

Ruling party PTI took to Twitter to take a hit at the Sindh government over the mismanagement of Karachi during the flooding caused by excessive rain on Friday. It is reported that four people including a little girl lost their lives due to electrocution caused by excessive water.

Pakistan’s ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) took to Twitter to post a video of the PTI’s MNA from Karachi Alamgir Khan riding a tractor donning Fixit tee to go fix the problems caused by the rain and the flooding that followed.

The video was posted with the caption, “Half an hour of rain exposed the performance of Administrator Karachi and Sindh Government,” adding that this is the job of the provincial government, not the MNA.

Heat-stricken Karachi got some relief as the monsoon rain bettered the weather, however, only some time later, Pakistan’s biggest city drowned in water resembling a pond.

According to national media, areas including Ghareebabad, Rizvia Chorangi, and Liaquatabad were flooded with rainwater while the drainage was nowhere to be seen. Water also accumulated on Defence, Clifton, Shahra-e-Faisal, and University Road. The highest rainfall of 41 mm was recorded at Saadi Town, while the lowest of 7.2 mm was recorded in Nazimabad.

This was followed by drowned Karachi followed by suspension of power supply for many areas in the metropolitan on Friday. According to media reports, many of K-Electric s feeders tripped. Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Shah Faisal Colony suffered major power suspensions.

Four persons including a little girl were electrocuted to death as torrential rains flooded the metropolis, roads, and streets on Friday. Many held the provincial government responsible for the catastrophes that met the city.

Meanwhile the Karachi administrator Barrister Murtaza Wahab had other things to say about the management. He repeatedly posted updates saying how areas were clear.

In one of the posts he said, “From Lyari i had moved towards shahrah e faisal, nursery, tipu sultan road, shaheed e millat road, hyder ali & tariq underpass. All of these areas remained clear, now moving towards university road & then to district central.”

However, he received a lot of video replies of people showing him drowned areas of the city.

He tweeted on Saturday repuking critics and appreciated the city administration. He said, “My compliments to the entire administration of Karachi that worked so hard all throughout yesterday. There are mischief mongers who will try dissuade or criticise you but dont let them fail you.”
