Kevin Pietersen, other celebs support PM Khan’s corona relief fund

Govt of Pakistan is using celebrity influencers to mobilize the Pakistani diaspora and encourage them to donate generously for the coronavirus relief fund.

Celebrities have appealed to both the overseas Pakistani nationals and locals to donate generously to the ‘corona relief fund’ of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

A large number of people have been suffering financially with lockdown and suspension of economic activities hence the donations collected in the corona relief fund are being used to facilitate monetarily the underprivileged class.

Govt of Pakistan is using celebrities to mobilize Pakistani diaspora and encourage them to donate generously for the coronavirus relief fund.

The former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram and his wife Shaniera Akram have released a video message on social media appealing to people especially overseas Pakistanis to come forward and support the helpless and needy people in their home country.

Wasim Akram ensured that the collection and disbursement of the funds is a transparent process, details on which are mentioned on the official website: http://covid.ophrd.gov.pk.

Similarly, actor Farhan Saeed also voiced his support for the humanitarian cause and encouraged people to donate to the funds. He specifically urged the youth of Pakistan to join the ‘Tiger Force’ made by Prime Minister Imran Khan to fight coronavirus.

This relief force is a group of hundreds and thousands of volunteers that will help the government in facilitating the poor fraction of society who are adversely affected by this lockdown.

According to a report, 600,000 youth including 19,718 females from across the country have registered for the Corona Relief Tiger Force.

Besides the local celebrities, renowned cricketer Kevin Pietersen from England, who plays for Quetta Gladiators in the PSL, has also released his video message on Twitter. He appealed to the Pakistani diaspora in the UK to donate wholeheartedly in the fund and help the country rise above the dark times of coronavirus pandemic.

He says through his video message he is trying to assist the people and government of Pakistan. He noted that while remittances from Pakistani diaspora is the biggest source of foreign earnings for Pakistan, their donations at a time of crisis would help Pakistan avert a grave humanitarian crisis.

Famous actress Mehwish Hayat has also voiced her support for the cause, explaining the risks the less fortunate people are facing under the lockdown. Hayat asks Pakistan expats to step forward and support PM’s coronavirus relief fund.
