Khalid Hosseini’s ‘Sea Prayer’ is a tribute to 3-year old Alan Kurdi

The internationally acclaimed writer Khalid Hosseini is set to release his upcoming book  ‘Sea Prayer’ in August 2018. The book will be released worldwide. The ‘Sea Prayer’ is a tribute to a three-year-old Syrian boy Alan Kurdi whose body was found on the Turkish beach in September 2015.

The heart-wrenching incident brought an international outcry and compelled the American-Afghan author to compile a book on Alan Kurdi.

Written in the form of a letter, ‘Sea Prayer’ is the reflection of a father who as Syrian emigrant set on a dangerous journey with his three-year-old son and family to escape the death in Syria. But lost his son to the brutal waves of the Mediterranean Sea.

The writer took to his official Instagram account and shared the details of his upcoming book in a heartfelt message.

He wrote, “Thank you, everyone, for the overwhelmingly kind messages about the release of Sea Prayer. It is my hope that this short illustrated book will shine a human light on the struggles and suffering of countless refugees around the planet whose lives have been shattered by violence and persecution.”

“Sea Prayer, intended for Both YA and adult readers, will feature truly gorgeous illustrations by the London based artist Dan Williams. All of my proceeds from this book will benefit refugees through UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the work of The Khaled Hosseini Foundation. I thank all of you for your support, loyalty, and kindness.” he added further.

Khalid Hosseini at several occasions has expressed his support for the Afghan and Syrian refugees. He has authored three international best-selling books ‘The Thousand Splendid Suns’, ‘The Kite Runner’ and ‘The Mountains Echoed’.

Sea Prayer is expected to hit the shelves on 30th August in the United Kingdom and on 18th September in the USA.
