Defence Minister Khwaja Asif says that less babies are born in countries where markets and businesses shut down early while defending the decision to close markets at 8.30 pm.
The government is facing backlash on the decision to close markets by 8.30 pm and wedding halls by 10.30 pm. Businesses and the public are not happy with the decision. A majority of people believe that this will negatively impact the businesses that have still not fully recovered from the COVID-19 turndown.
Others believe that extraordinary situations demand extraordinary solutions hence the entire nation should come forward and save the country together.
Minister of Defense Khwaja Asif was present along with other ministers during the press conference. The team of ministers announced the decision taken by the cabinet.
In response to a question, Khwaja Asif said that in Pakistan people reproduce more despite closing markets at 1 am in the night whereas in western and European people reproduce less even when they close markets early in the evening; this is the efficiency of the Pakistani nation. Hence markets should close early. His statements have gone viral on social media. Netizens are unable to understand what the minister meant.

This is not the first time Khwaja Asif and PDM ministers have made the headlines for their bizarre statements.
Back in August, Defence Minister of Pakistan Khwaja Asif received flak on social media after he shared a funny video on Miftah Ismail and the IMF agreement with Pakistan.
He shared a meme video showing Miftah Ismail singlehandedly saving the plane from crashing. The video likened Miftah to a superhero who saved the country from a possible default with a deal with IMF.
Asif captioned the tweet, “Three cheers for Miftah Ismail”. His tweet came a day after International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved the 7th and 8th tranches for Pakistan.
The minister’s tweet went viral following which he received flak on social media for posting non-serious content on his Twitter account. Netizens have schooled Khawaja Asif for celebrating the approval of the loan that Pakistan has to pay back as well.
