An angry violent mob burnt alive a local tourist over blasphemy accusations in the Madyan area of Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The locals accused the man of desecrating the Holy Quran on Thursday night, police said.
Eight people were injured in the incident says the Swat District Police Officer Zahidullah Khan. According to the hospital sources, eleven local people also suffered injuries and were shifted to the hospital.
DPO said that the Police had moved the alleged man, a local tourist, to a Police station. Later the mob attacked the Police station and set it on fire. A charged mob “attacked the police station and took the suspect away”. “People set fire to the police station and a mobile vehicle,” the DPO said, adding that the suspect was “torched”. Disturbing videos of the man being set on fire have been circulating on social media since last night. According to the DPO Swat, Police had arrested the alleged blasphemer Sulaiman after people complained that he allegedly burnt the Holy Quran. But a large number of people besieged the Police Station after announcements were made from the loudspeakers of the mosque.
“The angry people also snatched the accused from the possession of the police and after dragging him onto the streets, they set him on fire and killed him,” the DPO confirmed.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur (Madin) took notice of the unfortunate incident that took place in Swat. Chief Minister directed the IGP to take measures on an emergency basis to control the situation. The Chief Minister expressed regret over this unfortunate incident. He also appealed to the citizens to remain peaceful.
