Major win for PTV as it achieves Rs. 4 bln revenue target

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain shared the details on his Twitter account. According to Fawad Chaudhry, government efforts managed to save PTV from bankruptcy. 

In a major achievement, Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) raked in a massive Rs. 4 billion in revenue, making it the highest ever revenue earned by it.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain shared the details on his Twitter account. According to Fawad Chaudhry, government efforts managed to save PTV from bankruptcy.

“PTV achieved a revenue target of Rs. 4 billion, the biggest revenue collection in the history of the state-run channel,” the Minister tweeted.

“When we took reins of PTV, it was completely bankrupt. In a short span of time, we digitized two channels and gave PTV a business model. Today, it was one of the profit earning companies,” he further added.

A new era for PTV

Ever since the PTI government came took over in 2018, PTV underwent major changes which benefitted the channel. For most of its time, PTV struggled with conservatism. However, after taking the reins, Minister Fawad Chaudhry promised reforms.

In May 2021, PTV went live on Youtube for the first time. Youtube owned by Google has more than 31 million channels, with new users sprouting every day. It has 2 billion active monthly users, meaning that through Youtube any channel has the potential of reaching billions of users every month.

Important to note, many traditional channels had already shifted to Youtube. However, PTV joined late despite Youtube being around for 16 years.

Later that same year, Fawad Chaudhry announced that PTV will be converted to HD by June 1st. In a series of tweets, Fawad Chaudhry said PTV News and PTV Sports become HD channels. He also revealed that an English-language channel will also be launched as part of the overhaul programs. PTV now has two channels in HD and an English language channel called PTV World.

Apart from structural reforms, PTV also upgraded the content broadcasted. In collaboration with Turkey, PTV broadcasted hit Turkish serials based on historical Muslim leaders, for example, Dirlis Ertugrul, and Yunus Emre.

According to media reports, PTV earned a huge profit of Rs.42 crore from the broadcast of the Turkish series, Dirilis Ertugrul. Due to the success of Ertugrul, PTV is set to air another historic Turkish series, The Last Emperor: Abdul Hamid II. The series is a chronology of the life and events of the last Ottoman emperor.

PTV shared the news on its official Twitter handle. “Following the historic success of Ertugrul Ghazi, PTV is bringing the story of a Sultan who has a true devotion to the love of the Prophet,” PTV tweeted.
