The Malaysian automaker, Proton has launched its brand new X70 compact crossover SUV in Pakistan. Owing to the pandemic, the launch event was held virtually with a limited audience attending in-person. As per reports, the X70 will be offered in Pakistan as a Complete Built-Up Unit (CBU) imported from Malaysia.
In December alone, auto enthusiasts will bear witness to a number of launches including Changan Alsvin, Prince Glory 580 Pro and Toyota Corolla X.

Engine and Performance
According to details revealed to the media during the launch event, Proton X70 will be powered by a 1.5 litre turbocharged 3-cylinder gasoline engine capable of generating 177 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque.
The vehicle is expected to be launched in the Pakistani automobile market in two variants: All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Front-Wheel Drive (FWD). Its transmission is 7-speed automatic DCT.
X70 will be having Eco and Sport driving modes which the users can activate as per their needs.
Exterior
Proton X70 makes an aggressive statement with its front grille and bumpers. Wheels are of 18-inch size and the cross compact SUV has sides lined with chrome giving it a classy look.
The headlights are halogen based with DRL for the base model but the higher end variant may get adaptive LED headlights with exclusive features like an auto dip.
If we look at the rear side, we find a spoiler, LED taillights and dual exhausts along with a standard wiper for the rear screen.
The vehicle is 4519mm long, 1831mm wide and 1694mm high and has a weight of 1625-KG.

Interior
If we look at the interior of the Malaysian SUV, we find that the seats are made out of leather. The vehicle carries the capacity of 5 passengers, which includes the driver vehicle. However, depending on the user’s needs the second-row seats can be folded to make more space for your luggage.
The dashboard is black and silver with an infotainment screen in the middle, which exclusively for the top trim level will be connected to 8-speakers, an amplifier and subwoofer. Bluetooth and radio will come as standard features. In the higher trim level of Proton X70, a panoramic roof will also be offered.
The Malaysian automaker has equipped the SUV with a state-of-the-art Geely Smart Ecosystem infotainment system which is capable of performing actions for the users based on voice commands. Furthermore, it will also possess WIFI capability as well as a GSM SIM slot that can enable mobile data coverage while on the go.

Safety
If we look at the safety features offered by the Malaysian automaker in its X70 SUV, we find six airbags, reverse camera, tyre pressure monitoring system – and on the braking front, ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist are provided. The vehicle also comes with features like Hill-Start Assist, Traction Control, Hill-Descent Control, Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
The SUV is equipped with McPherson front and a Multi-link rear suspension.

In the higher trim model or advance model, features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera are provided.

Price and availability
It’s expected that the price of Proton X70 will be around PKR 5 Million. Well, it won’t be easy for the SUV to compete with other SUVs which have become very popular in the domestic market. These include KIA’s Sportage and Hyundai’s Tucson and MG’s HS.
