Malik Adnan, the hero of the Sialkot incident, has been conferred with Tamgha-i-Shujaat for his bravery. Malik Adnan, a factory worker in Sialkot, had risked his life to save the Sri Lankan factory manager who was killed by a violent mob on false blasphemy charges.
Malik Adnan was the colleague of the Sri Lankan factory manager, Priyantha Kumara. He risked his life to save him but failed in front of the large violent mob. His video had gone viral on social media on the day of the unfortunate incident in December 2021. He covered the Priyantha with his body to save his life. Workers overpowered him and dragged Kumara out on the street and tortured him to death.
He was immensely praised for his efforts by the Pakistani nation and premier alike. For his extraordinary bravery, PM Imran Khan had called him the hero of the Sialkot incident.

In a tweet, PM Imran Khan had acknowledged his bravery. Prime Minister Imran said: “On behalf of the nation I want to salute [the] moral courage and bravery of Malik Adnan who tried his utmost to shelter and save Priyantha Diyawadana from the vigilante mob in Sialkot.” Adding that, Adnan had endangered his own life “by physically trying to shield the victim”, saying he would be honored with the Tamgha-i-Shujaat.
On a special event on 23rd March, President Arif Alvi conferred Malk Adnan with Tamgha-i-Shujaat.
In a tweet, Malk Adnan expressed gratitude for being conferred with the civilian award. In his Twitter message, he vowed to continue to stand with the truth.
“I am deeply grateful to the President of Pakistan Mr. Arif Alvi for awarding me the Medal of Courage. Inshallah, whenever the country and the nation need it, I will stand against the falsehood by supporting the truth,” said Malik Adnan in a tweet. He was also honored during the Pakistan Day parade.
