Maryam Nawaz calls Punjab College rape case ‘fabricated story’

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz blasted PTI in her press conference while speaking on Punjab College alleged rape case on Wednesday.

She called the case a fabricated story and said that the girl is fine. Maryam Nawaz asserted that no such incident has happened and that the incident was reported following social media rumors.

She explained that as soon as the incident was reported, a thorough investigation was conducted and no such thing was found.

During a press conference in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz stated, “I chaired the final meeting of the investigative committee and am presenting the facts. I am both a mother and the chief executive of this province and protecting the dignity of women is my responsibility. The police received a report claiming that a student at a private college in Punjab had been raped.”

She further said “The incident was reported to have occurred on the 10th, but the girl had been hospitalized since the 2nd after a serious fall that left her critically injured and admitted to the ICU. She was wrongly portrayed as a rape victim.”

Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab Group of Colleges belongs to a respectable man, and the incident is an attempt to tarnish the college’s image. She further said that she scolded the provincial education minister for suspending the college’s registration.

She said the girl’s mother is distressed and she wants action against those who spread misinformation.

CM Punjab accused a political party of creating a law and order situation in the case in the province.

She said that a “plan was hatched” to mislead and instigate students through social media deliberately and accused the PTI of fueling the rumours and using them to its advantage.

“The girl [in the viral video] is not a rape victim, but a victim of bad politics and conspiracy,” she said.
