Maryam Nawaz condemned for ‘distasteful’ tweet on death of Arshad Sharif

Her comments have triggered social media users who are calling her tweet ‘insensitive’ and disturbing.

Maryam Nawaz receives flak on Twitter following her cryptic and distasteful tweet regarding the death of renowned journalist Arshad Sharif.

She shared the picture of the coffin of Arshad Sharif tied in ropes at the runway of the airport to be taken to Pakistan through Qatar Airways. She posted her picture with a comment that “I don’t feel good RTing this but this is a lesson for mankind that we must all imbibe.”

Comments of Maryam Nawaz on the death of Arshad Sharif have triggered social media users who are calling her tweet ‘insensitive’ and disturbing. People are calling her to delete the tweet. Prominent journalists like Nasim Zehra and Ansar Abbasi have called her tweet ‘ill-timed’. They advised her to go silent on the matter.

Earlier in the day, PMLN received criticism for sharing a video of cutting the cake of Diwali celebrations and sharing it on social media just a few hours after the heinous murder of Arshad Sharif.

Meanwhile, the body of senior journalist Arshad Sharif, who was shot dead in Kenya, is on its way to Pakistan through a flight that will land in Islamabad on October 26 at 0105 hours.

According to an update by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs shared with media on Tuesday, the body of the late Arshad Sharif was transported at 0125 hours from Nairobi to Doha via Qatar Airways flight QR1342 early Tuesday.

The onward flight QR0632 will leave Doha at 1935 hours today (Oct 25) and arrive in Islamabad at 0105 hours on October 26 (Wednesday). Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Kenya Saqlain Syeda oversaw the arrangements at Nairobi Airport for the repatriation of the body.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday telephoned Kenyan President William Ruto and emphasized an impartial and fair investigation into the killing of senior journalist Arshad Sharif. Discussing the tragic incident with the Kenyan president, the prime minister also conveyed serious concerns of the Pakistani nation and the media community.

He also requested the Kenyan president to fast-track the fulfillment of formalities for returning the body of late journalists to Pakistan.
