Maryam Nawaz made a deal for Ishaq Dar’s return?

Due to the recent onslaught of leaked audios, Maryam Nawaz is being accused of interfering in government matters despite holding no public office.

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz allegedly made a deal for senior PML-N leader Ishaq Dar’s return to Pakistan to take over the portfolio of the Finance Minister. This was revealed in another recent audio leak.

To clarify, several audios of conversations between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz have been leaked in the past few days. The audio leaks have been very shocking as they “expose” the PML-N government.

Moreover, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were also talking about how it is important to make a report against a judge, otherwise, Ishaq Dar’s return would not be possible.

The audio leak is being considered an expose on how Maryam Nawaz allegedly made a deal or was involved in “back-channel talks” for Ishaq Dar’s return.

PML-N senior leader Ishaq Dar returned to Pakistan from London after a 5 years long self-imposed exile. Prior to his return, his permanent arrest warrant for the corruption charges was suspended. Tuesday, Ishaq Dar was sworn in as a senator.

Audio leaks fiasco

Due to the recent onslaught of leaked audios, Maryam Nawaz is being accused of interfering in government matters despite holding no public office. In the first audio leak, Maryam Nawaz suggested jacking up fuel prices. In another audio leak, she was insisting on shutting down the previous government’s health program which benefitted millions.

According to the incumbent government’s political rival, PTI, the leaked audios are “incriminating evidence” against PML-N. PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar have demanded strict action against the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, reacting to the latest audio leak of Maryam Nawaz, PTI leader Shireen Mazari called Shehbaz Sharif a “puppet”.

“There goes convict-on-bail again telling Crime Minister what to do and how she has made a deal so Dar’s return won’t be a problem for imported government’s handlers. Crime Minister really is a puppet with more than one source pulling his strings. Nowhere else in the world can a convict run the government,” PTI leader Shireen Mazari tweeted.

The leaked audios have raised alarm over Pakistan’s cyber security. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif termed the surfacing of audio leaks of conversations between key government figures a “serious security lapse” and announced the formation of a high-level committee to probe the matter.
