“How many criminals who stole billions did you say ‘good to see you’ to? Did you call a Mercedes for everyone by calling from the Registrar’s phone? Did you shift everyone from the jail to a rest house? Did you rain bails on everyone in the same manner? Did you ask everyone to call their ten family members, chat with them and go to sleep,” Maryam Nawaz hit back at the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Maryam Nawaz has been very vocal about her criticism of the CJP lately. During Monday’s PDM sit-in, Maryam Nawaz even demanded the resignation of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, saying the nation was going to hold him to account.
She however also said that her criticism was not aimed at the judges but at those elements in the apex court “facilitating” the PTI chief Imran Khan.
CJP’s clarification
Earlier today, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial clarified that his remark “good to see you Imran Khan” carried no political implication. He made the remarks during the hearing of a civil case. Addressing lawyer Asghar Sabswari during the hearing of a civil case CJP Bandial stressed the importance of good manners.
CJP Bandial said that everyone deserves respect while lamenting that he was subjected to criticism for offering a simple greeting to former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He also added that ethics and morals are important for everyone.
CJP Umar Ata Bandial became the target of much criticism, especially from the PDM-led coalition government after he welcomed Imran Khan to the Supreme Court for a hearing against his arrest.
Later, the federal cabinet held a meeting taking notice of the rioting incidents that erupted in Pakistan after Imran Khan’s arrest and said that terrorism and anti-nationalism are not acceptable under any circumstances.
The meeting also strongly condemned the words of the chief justice including “Good to see you” and said that this expression of a person sitting on the highest seat of justice in a corruption case is a shameful blemish on the forehead of justice. Addressing the cabinet, PM Shehbaz disapproved of the “double standards of justice.”
