Maryam Nawaz vacates NA-119 seat, party sources

Shahzad Farooq had claimed that Maryam Nawaz won through rigging in the elections. Among the other candidates contesting from the constituency were PPP's Iftikhar Shahid and Tehreek-e-Labbaik's Muhammad Shahid.

Maryam Nawaz has reportedly resigned from NA-118 seat after being nominated as the Chief Minister of Punjab by her party PMLN. She has announced her resignation from the NA-118 seat.

PTI-backed candidate Mian Shahzad Farooq had fought the election against her. His brother Mian Abad Farooq is already in prison in the case related to inciting violence on May 9th, 2023. Abad Farooq also lost his son during his incarceration.

Shahzad Farooq had claimed that Maryam Nawaz won through rigging in the elections. Among the other candidates contesting from the constituency were PPP’s Iftikhar Shahid and Tehreek-e-Labbaik’s Muhammad Shahid.

She has decided to retain her Punjab provincial seat as she is set to become the Chief Minister of Punjab. Earlier she held a press conference in which she shared the roadmap for the province.

Other PMLN leaders are also expected to leave the provincial seats which includes Shehbaz Sharif leaving Kasur and Lahore seats. Hamza Shahbaz is also leaving the Lahore seat.

According to sources, Sardar Ghulam Abbas plans to vacate the provincial seat representing Chakwal, while Rana Tanveer intends to step down from the provincial seat of Sheikhupura.

Additionally, Ahsan Iqbal is expected to resign from the provincial seat in Narowal, and Sardar Owais Leghari is set to leave the provincial seat in Dera Ghazi Khan. Furthermore, sources suggest that Jam Kamal will tender his resignation from the provincial seat of Lasbela.

Addressing the media outside the Punjab Assembly, Bokhari expressed her belief that Maryam Nawaz is poised to become Pakistan’s first female Chief Minister. She emphasized her support for empowering women in leadership roles.

Azma Bokhari praised the efforts of Maryam Nawaz in supporting the party in difficult times and added that Maryam Nawaz will outline her plans in her inaugural speech as Chief Minister of Punjab.
