Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Science and Technology, on Sunday, stated that senators and MPAs from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will soon have a meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan, marking the beginning of a process of shifting loyalties in the political landscape.

“Political realities define the decision-making process, the PML-N and Pakistan People’s Party have lost their credibility, urging people to focus on local realities.” In a press conference on Sunday, the PTI federal minister signalled that some members of the PML-N and PPP are shifting their loyalties and moving towards the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government.

PML-N’s Game of Thrones

Fawad Chaudhry announced that there is a struggle for leadership between senior leaders of the PML-N, instigated by Maryam Nawaz Sharif, this “battle for the throne” is creating a rift within the party and dismantling its unity. “The conflicting narratives of Maryam Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif indicate a lack of unity in the PML-N leadership.”

Economic conditions are set to improve within six months. The PTI-led government has returned $9.8 billion of the foreign loans, which is equal to the entire budget allocated for the Sindh province.

The Federal Minister for Science and Technology added, that there is an ongoing power struggle between the PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition, Shahbaz Sharif and his niece, Maryam Nawaz, who is the Vice-President.

Fawad said, “As soon as Maryam rejected Shahbaz’s offer of the Charter of Economy to the PTI-led government, Khawaja Asif rallied to her side, highlighting the rift in decision-making.”

He added, ‘It appears that Shahbaz Sharif has been reduced to a figurehead, and since he does not have a narrative of his own, it has been hijacked by Maryam, who appears to have assumed control of the party.”

Fawad noted that Shahbaz Sharif is not a visionary and since he has never responded to a crisis, the PML-N leadership no longer looks towards him in times of crisis. He commented, “Shahbaz Sharif has been reduced to the likes of Fazal Elahi and Rafiq Tarar of his party.”

PML-N Senators Leaving

Fawad Chaudhry announced that scores of PML-N senators and MNAs will be leaving the party soon. “We had a meeting with multiple people on Saturday, and soon, the media will be presented with a list of 12 MPAs.”

Raising questions about Maryam Nawaz’s leadership style, Fawad Chaudhry noted that her supporters in the party are leaving her behind.

He noted that Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif also appears to be making a safe exit from a sinking ship. Fawad commented, “He has resigned from all the party committees, and is only serving as the Leader of the Opposition.”

PML-N is in disarray after news of 15 MPAs meeting PM. It instilled fear amongst PML-N leaders: they are losing control over their MPAs. Their narrative will not be adhered 2 by more legislators (regular MNAs, Senators).

Fawad Chaudhry stated that Maryam’s mindset is triggering desertions and shifting loyalties as PML-N senators and lawmakers are leaving the party behind. He advised the opposition against issuing a no-confidence motion against Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani unless, “they want to face more desertions.”

Moving towards the PPP leadership, Fawad Chaudhry commented on the insignificant attendance of a mere 150 people at PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s rally in Gujjar Khan. The Federal Minister remarked, “The presence of only 150 people at Bilawal’s rally speaks volumes about his popularity amongst the people.”

Fawad Chaudhry also announced the upcoming visit of Prince William and Kate Middleton, in addition, informed the media about PTI’s success in achieving its foreign policy goals.

Sharif family is on daggers drawn: Shahbaz Sharif feels PML-N has been hijacked by Maryam Nawaz. With Nawaz Sharif losing grip, Shahbaz Sharif is about to lose party despite being outside and the opposition leader.

Jan Achakzai stated that the elected and electable see “no end to Nawaz family’s woes”.

The Baloch analyst added, “PML-N’s leverage is to block legislation for the PTI-led government in the next four years. The Meeting of 15 MPAs comes as a nightmare: it will encourage more defections; more defections mean Forward Blocks.”

Achakzai stated that such an eventuality would ensure that the PML-N leadership is “relegated to nothingness by its own legislators.”

Achakzai noted that Maryam’s is on a “suicide mission” and the family squabbles and differences she has stirred up with Shahbaz Sharif will have dire consequences.
