Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni showcased her internet savvy by posting a selfie with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on her official Instagram account during the ongoing COP28 climate summit in Dubai, UAE.

The 46-year-old leader cleverly captioned the post with the hashtag #Melodi, a play on the surnames of both leaders. The post quickly gained popularity, amassing over 110,000 likes and thousands of comments, indicating their favor among online audiences.

The camaraderie between the two leaders first emerged during the G20 Summit in Delhi earlier in the year. Their friendly interactions, marked by handshakes, laughter, and pleasantries, continued at subsequent events, including Meloni’s visit to India in March. During her trip, which coincided with the diamond anniversary of the bilateral relationship between Italy and India, various bilateral meetings took place.

Meloni extended birthday wishes to PM Modi with an endearing message, highlighting their shared commitment to building the future and pride in the historical ties between their nations. The two leaders also engaged in discussions at the G20 Summit, where PM Modi had busy interactions with other global leaders, including Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu.

During his address at the summit, PM Modi emphasized the need for global collaboration to reduce emissions and proposed a ‘green credit’ initiative focused on creating carbon sinks.
